This position is funded from the Commonwealth's annual operating budget.

 

DUTIES:

Operates boiler and related equipment under the direction of the engineer in charge. Start and keeps fires at proper heat intensity. Operates and maintains high pressure boiler and their appurtenances. Operates and maintains feed and vacuum pumps and other boiler room auxiliary equipment. Cleans out tubes and boilerplates internally and externally. Assists in making repairs to boiler and boiler room equipment or ventilating systems. Maintains proper appearance of equipment by polishing brass and painting pipes, fixtures and woodwork. Maintains operation of ventilating systems. Takes and records meter readings, pressure, water level, oil levels and temperatures as may be required. Keeps power plant clean and in good order by sweeping, washing, polishing and painting. May supervise helpers and or assistants engaged in related tasks. Ability to test and treat boiler feed water. Ability to do pipe fittings. ABility to do repairs above floor level. Ability to enter and do work in a confined space. Ability to maintain a sewerage chamber station. Ability to maintain and operate several steam turbines in the power plant.
Maintains/monitors water level in stand pipe.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Possession of a current and valid First or Second Class Steam Fireman’s license issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety, pursuant to Chapter 146 of the Massachusetts General Laws.  

This position requires a 1st Class Steam Fireman's License

This is a Civil Service position.
This position is a full time (40 hrs.)
Schedule: Flexible to meet the needs of the power plant
Days Off: Flexible

Schedule - Active full time

Shift - Second shift evenings

Hours - 40 Hours per week.  Tuesday - Saturday, 3pm - 11pm.

Job Details - Appropriate licensure is required
Perform a variety of tasks to include operating hot water generators, chillers, oil and water pumps, cooling towers, keeping assigned areas clean and monitoring the energy management systems for the safe operation of the hospital.
Class II Fireman's license and mechanical skills with 5 years experience required.
