Job
Functions
Teach
Utility Operator the duties of Control Room Engineer when assigned.
Duties
include the operation of the central control room and/or the
operation and minor maintenance of all station equipment as
assigned. Coordinates
with other station operators, the proper execution of all station
operating procedures on an assigned shift.
Performs all tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
Maintains all emissions within regulatory limits.
Instruct
and direct the work of the Utility Operator and others as assigned.
Essential

Work
emergency and planned overtime when the need exists.
Acts
as a team member with all employees of GDF SUEZ staff
Complies
with all GDF SUEZ policies and procedures
Other
Functions
Perform
work in a safe and efficient manner in the operation of the Control
Room.
Carries
out other duties as assigned
Requirements
Must
Possess 2nd Class Engineer’s license Massachusetts.
Essential
Physical Abilities
Meet
physical requirements as required by medical placement examination.
Ability
to meet highest attendance requirements
Ability
to use personal computer, calculator, etc.
Could
involve some lifting, up to 20 lbs.
Ability
to communicate effectively, both written and verbally.
Ability
to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree
of accuracy.

Work
full rotating 12hr. shifts with seven-day coverage.

PHYSICAL
PLANT DIVISION
The
person holding this position performs numerous operations and
maintenance tasks and leads others in the safe and efficient
operation of the University
of Massachusetts Amherst Power Plant, meeting all
environmental and safety requirements.
Minimum
Qualifications:
A.
Possession
of a Second Class
Stationary Engineer’s License issued by the Massachusetts
Department of Public Safety pursuant to Chapter 146 of the
Mass General Laws.
B.
Possession
of a Grade 2-I full active or high Certificate
of Competency issued by the Massachusetts Board of
Certifications of Operators of Wastewater
Treatment Facilities pursuant to the Code
of Massachusetts Regulations 257 CMR 2.00. Individual must
obtain this qualification within the first year of employment.
C.
Five
years of Power Plant experience in operations and/or maintenance;
control room operator qualifications preferred.
D.
Knowledge
of and experience in at least four(4) of the following skill areas:
pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair,
fabrication, machine alignment, piping schematics, mechanical
drawings, electrical theory, electrical safety, vibration
analysis, electrical test equipment, basic electrical
trouble-shooting, and high and low voltage systems, equipment and
components.
E.
Experience
with gas
turbine operations preferred.
F.
Will
be exposed to inherent Power Plant conditions. Must be able to
use ladders and industrial trucks and physically fit to perform
heavy work.

Functions
Supervises,
oversees, and coordinates the operation of all station generating
and associated equipment, including high voltage switchyards, during
a designated shift at assigned power plant facilities.
Essential

Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to:
Supervision
of the safe and economic operation during assigned operating shifts
at Mt. Tom Station;
Accountability
during such shifts for the operation of the power plant, including
optimization of power plant reliability by effectively managing all
operating parameters;
Coordination
and oversight of all generating and related equipment within the
station;
Optimization
of plant equipment reliability;
Environmental
compliance and adherence to safety standards;
Station
security during assigned shifts;
Operations
training;
Response
to emergencies and other situations requiring attention;
Record-keeping
associated with the implementation of all administrative and
operating procedures;
The
individual must exhibit strong teambuilding skills and demonstrated
communication and leadership abilities;
Must
be available to work overtime as required consistent with
operational requirements or needs.
Education
/ Experience
Minimum
requirements include an Associate Degree in Engineering, Science,
Technology or the equivalent, with eight years of power plant
operations experience, and a current Massachusetts First Class
Stationary Engineer’s license.
