Happy Independance Day!

What is a POWER ENGINEER?

A Power Engineer is a person proficient in converting energy into power. For over 120 years NAPE has educated its members, in Chapters across the country, in the field of Power Engineering. N.A.P.E. is dedicated to the Education of Power Engineers. Mass Chapter 4 is located in Chicopee Massachusetts, and has over two hundred members that operate and maintain power plants from Worcester to the New York State line. As an active member of Chapter 4 your own professionalism increases each time you exchange ideas with other members at monthly business meetings, seminars, tours or social events. As a member of Chapter 4 we are taught that through association there is success.

President's Message

After the past two months starting the newsletter with news of a passing brother, this month I bring you news of a different kind of passing.  Brother and teacher Joe Santucci recently passed his 1st Engineer’s exam and earned his license.

I mention this because it shows how even our teachers are educating themselves.  Joe works very hard for us teaching continuing education classes as well as our Fireman’s classes.  Please join me in congratulating Joe!

I have just finished looking at all of the class reviews submitted by students of our continuing education classes.  I know we run a top-notch program, but I must admit that I was impressed at all the positive comments about our teachers.  Chuck, Joe, and Jonathan put a lot of effort into these classes and their work usually goes by without recognition.  Guys keep doing what you are doing because your students like the job you are doing.

Please join me in welcoming Chris Herbert from DuBois Chemicals.  He has recently taken up an ad in our flyer.  Thank you Chris for helping support our Chapter.

I have contacted our current officers and asked if they were interested in continuing in their positions.  I am glad to report all current officers have decided to help the Chapter out for one more year!  While this is great news, if you are interested in a position, come to next month’s meeting where we will elect and install officers.

I would like to thank Mr. Matt Palmer for his informative presentation about the new combine cycle plant in Westfield .  Matt educated the body on what is involved in the process of building a generating station.  He has transferred his NAPE membership to Chapter 4, and has expressed an interest in teaching for us, be it either continuing education or license preparation classes.

Due to work commitments, I was unable to attend the DOE license preparation class.  I will be in contact with them to see if they can assist me in getting our school licensed, so we can have our 1st / 2nd Engineer’s Class in the fall.  Stay tuned for details.

Please come to our next meeting on July 2nd, where we will elect officers, discuss our summer picnic, and the upcoming National Convention.

Regards, Anthony
